Having no road map, having no one to tell you what to do is extremely rewarding when comes to work. To me, it has been a long process from having a creative idea, to making it visible. Then to see the idea tangible and transferred onto an object, is a feeling that I’m glad that I didn’t miss. I wanted to venture out on my own, and make my own design products. Glad I listened to my heart despite of the fear, few years ago!
I’ve been working lately at Mission Grafica in San Francisco to print my first batch of t-towels. The images are derived from a story I had from a friend of mine up in Alaska and it’s lovely. I have a line of pillows, t-towels and prints with the images.
I’ve been looking hard to find the right kind of fabric for my textiles, and my search has been narrowed down to couple of places. I printed few samples yesterday, but most of my time there I was mixing colors and preparing the screens. I have to add the second colors to the designs on Friday, and hopefully I can start sewing them together after that. This is the daunting task I’m faced with when I do my designs by hand. The tag that comes with it will say something like this: “Hand Made in California. Wash with gentle care”. And that is what makes this so special!
